The Kerala Minerals and Metals ltd has set all time record in the production of Titanium Dioxide Pigment by producing 36879 MT in the financial year ended 2010-2011 which is around 1000 MT higher than the previous record. It has also achieved record in yearly sale of Titanium Tetra Chloride [Tickle] by selling 1822.540 MT. MS plant also achieved all time record in the production of Zircon i.e. 2838 MT. The sales turnover of Rs. 588 crore is yet another all time record. The provisional profit for the year is Rs 112 crores.
All these records were set by overcoming the abnormal increase in the input price due to sky rocketing of petroleum product price. The Furnace oil, LPG, Petroleum coke constitute more than 30% of cost of production. The major areas of concern continued to be non availability of sufficient quantities of Ilmenite from sea wash collections and depletion of the concentration in the available sea wash collections.
The financial year 2010-2011 also proved to be good in terms of project completions. The commissioning of two cost reduction projects namely, Valuable Mineral Separation in the MS plant and Capacity Augmentation of Beneficiated Ilmenite through minimum investments are milestone achievements. The most significant achievement is the commissioning of prestigious Titanium Sponge Plant during this financial year, in which the production process is being stabilised.
